Abstract:

Francoise Robin du Pont (1748-1841) was the second wife of Pierre Samuel du Pont de Nemours (1739-1817) a promienent French political economist, writer, publisher, and public administrator. The collection contains a letter from du Pont to Marc Antoine Jullien (1775-1848), "Ancien Inspecteur aux Revues" asking for copies of recent reviews or journals.

Abstract:

Belle M. Sherman (1851-1930) was a New York writer, translator, and editor who edited the women's page of the New York Herald, and wrote for magazines such as Colliers and the old Cosmopolitan under the byline of Mrs. B.M. Sherman or Belle M. Sherman. The collection contains incoming letters, the bulk from her son, Walter Magee Annette (1874-1955), but also her daughter-in-law Jane Nuckols (1878-unknown), and a column reader.

Abstract:

Pierre Samuel du Pont de Nemours was a French political economist, writer, publisher, and public administrator (1739-1817). The letters to Carl Fredrik, Comte de Scheffer, of Sweden (1715-1786), were part of a series to supply news from Paris, intended for Gustavus III, King of Sweden. Subjects include reviews of literary works, comments on political subjects, freedom of the press, du Pont accepting a Swedish knighthood, and biography of M. Turgot.

Abstract:

Samuel Francis du Pont (1803-1865) was a Rear Admiral in the United States Navy and fought in the Mexican-American War and the Civil War. He was the fourth child and second surviving son of Victor Marie du Pont (1767-1827) and his wife, Gabrielle Joséphine de la Fite de Pelleport (1770-1837). The collection contains two letters written to Oscar B. Sawyer (1838-1887) and Ben Perley Poore (1820-1887).
